Germany is on track to make Travel & Tourism history in 2025, according to new data released by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). Every major performance indicator is forecast to reach unprecedented levels, underscoring Germany’s growing global prominence as a tourism leader.

International visitor spending is expected to reach a record €57 billion, the highest inbound tourism spend ever recorded in the country. At the same time, the sector’s total contribution to GDP is projected to hit €499 billion, representing 11.6% of the national economy.

Jobs supported by the Travel & Tourism sector are also set to reach new heights, with a forecast of 6.5 million jobs, accounting for 14% of national employment.

Domestic tourism remains a vital pillar, with visitor spending expected to reach €425 billion, surpassing all previous records.

Sustainability and Smart Policy at the Core

Germany’s success is not accidental. The country’s forward-thinking tourism policy, housed within the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, reflects a commitment to long-term sustainable growth. This structure has fostered closer cooperation between government and industry leaders, allowing policies to evolve alongside the dynamic needs of the sector.

This is a landmark year for Travel & Tourism in Germany,” said Julia Simpson, President & CEO of WTTC. “To break records across every major measure—international and domestic spend, GDP contribution, and jobs—is a stunning achievement. It shows a sector not just recovering, but roaring back to life.”

Importantly, Germany’s growth model shows that economic strength and environmental sustainability can go hand in hand, offering a blueprint for other countries navigating the post-pandemic travel landscape.

2024 Set the Stage for Historic 2025

WTTC’s 2024 Economic Impact Report revealed strong results:

  • €484 billion in economic contribution
  • 6.1 million jobs supported
  • €422.3 billion in domestic spending
  • €45.1 billion in international visitor spending

These gains have laid the groundwork for 2025’s record-breaking momentum, but experts warn that continued success will rely on investment in connectivity, marketing, and visitor experience, particularly to attract international travelers.

Looking Ahead to 2035

WTTC projects that by 2035, Germany’s Travel & Tourism sector will:

  • Contribute €579 billion to the economy (12.1% of GDP)
  • Support 7.6 million jobs
  • Generate €74 billion in international visitor spending
  • Reach €480 billion in domestic tourism spending

To unlock this future potential, the sector must stay focused on innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
