The Caribbean Travel Marketplace 42 Closes with Charitable Actions in Jamaica for Responsible Tourism Day
The closing of the Caribbean Travel Marketplace 42 in Jamaica coincided with the celebration of Responsible Tourism Day, for which two significant activities were organized in honor of the date, with numerous delegates participating.
One of the main events was a beach clean-up activity and an educational tour at the Montego Bay Marine Park. This park is dedicated to the conservation and restoration of Montego Bay's coastal resources, seeking the maximum sustainable benefit for traditional users, the community, and the nation. It offers effective programs for public education, financial support, monitoring, and interpretive enforcement.
Other delegates, including the CHTA President, Nicola Madden-Greig, and other authorities, visited the SOS Children’s Village in Barrett Town, where they assisted with painting and general carpentry repairs. Additionally, they worked on the creation of a vegetable and fruit cultivation project to meet the village’s food needs under the motto "eat what you grow/grow what you eat." Delegates were also encouraged to bring clothing, tablets, and school supplies for the village’s children.
Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, highlighted the importance of this inaugural day, stating: "The Caribbean tourism fraternity is proud to celebrate the first Responsible Tourism Day. This new addition to the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association’s Caribbean Travel Marketplace trade event not only reinforces our commitment to sustainable tourism and resilience building but also underscores our responsibility to support the local communities that drive our industry and help it thrive."
The closing of the Caribbean Travel Marketplace 42 not only concluded a successful trade event but also marked a renewed commitment to responsible tourism and support for local communities, setting a standard for future editions.
