Disney Genie+ will become Lightning Lane Multi Pass, while individual Lightning Lanes will be referred to as Lightning Lane Single Pass.

Walt Disney World is set to introduce significant changes to its ride reservation system. Starting July 24, 2024, the current Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane passes will undergo a major rebranding and operational update.

These changes mark a significant shift in how Disney manages its ride reservation system, promising a more streamlined and guest-friendly approach. The updated Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass systems will provide greater flexibility and planning convenience, enhancing the overall Disney World experience.

The New Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass

The Disney Genie+ service will be renamed the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, while individual Lightning Lane passes will become the Lightning Lane Single Pass. These changes aim to simplify and enhance the guest experience, combining elements of the existing services with features from the beloved FastPass+ system.

How Lightning Lane Will Work

The Lightning Lane entry allows guests to bypass the standby queue for select attractions. Starting next month, there will be two distinct systems:

Lightning Lane Multi Pass: This will cover the same rides currently available with Genie+.
Lightning Lane Single Pass: Similar to the current Individual Lightning Lanes, these will be available for the most popular attractions at each park.

Advance Booking for Resort Guests

Guests staying at Disney World resort hotels will benefit from the ability to make selections up to seven days in advance for their entire stay, up to 14 days. Other guests can make selections up to three days in advance. This change eliminates the need to wake up early to secure reservations for popular rides like the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Star Wars Star Cruiser.

Simplified Pricing and Selection Process

Disney is also updating its app and website to allow parkgoers to see prices and select attraction times before purchasing passes. Currently, guests must purchase Genie+ before checking availability. This update aims to provide a more transparent and user-friendly planning experience.

Pre-Arrival and Day-Of Selections

With the new system, guests can make up to three advance Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections for each day of their trip. Once they arrive at the park and complete their first experience, they can book additional experiences pending availability. Lightning Lane Single Passes will remain limited to two per day, similar to the current system.

Transitioning from Genie+ to Lightning Lane

Guests who have already purchased Genie+ as a ticket add-on do not need to take any action. If visiting on or after July 24, the service will reflect the new name and branding but will function the same as before. The same applies to those who have already purchased individual Lightning Lane passes.
