Seahawks Claim Second Super Bowl Title with 29–13 Win Over Patriots
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (ABC MUNDIAL) — The Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl champions once again. Behind a dominant defensive performance and a reliable showing from their special teams, Seattle defeated the New England Patriots 29–13 on Sunday to capture the second Super Bowl title in franchise history, avenging their painful loss to New England 11 years ago in Super Bowl XLIX.
Seattle’s defense, nicknamed the “Dark Side,” was the story of the night. The unit, led by head coach Mike Macdonald, harassed Patriots quarterback Drake Maye throughout the game, limiting New England to 331 total yards and forcing three turnovers. The Patriots managed just 78 yards of offense through the first three quarters, with most of their production coming during a late, unsuccessful attempt to rally in the fourth quarter.
The defining moment came when Uchenna Nwosu intercepted Maye after Devon Witherspoon knocked the ball loose and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown, sealing the outcome with a decisive pick-six.
On offense, Seattle leaned on a balanced and efficient approach. Sam Darnold threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to AJ Barner early in the fourth quarter, while Kenneth Walker III delivered a standout performance on the ground, rushing for 135 yards and continuing his reputation as a big-game performer.
Special teams proved to be a major factor as well. Kicker Jason Myers set a Super Bowl record by converting five field goals, accounting for 15 of Seattle’s 29 points and keeping constant pressure on New England.
For the Patriots, Maye briefly sparked hope with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Mack Hollins, but the momentum quickly faded. An interception on the next drive and a subsequent fumble — returned for a touchdown by Nwosu — ended any chance of a comeback.
Seattle finished the game with a clear edge in ball control, holding possession for 33:11 compared to New England’s 26:49, and won the turnover battle 3–0. The Seahawks also outgained the Patriots on the ground 141–79, underscoring their physical dominance.
“This is an unbelievable feeling,” Darnold said after the game. “Our defense and special teams were incredible all season and especially tonight. I’m so proud of this group.”
With the victory, Seattle closes a 17–3 season and gives Darnold a remarkable personal milestone: he becomes the first quarterback from the 2018 draft class to win a Super Bowl, ahead of peers like Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson.
For the Seahawks, the night was about redemption, resilience and defense — and it ended with another Lombardi Trophy heading back to the Pacific Northwest.
