Mexico Welcomes 39.4 Million International Visitors Through May 2025, Breaking Records and Strengthening Its Global Tourism Leadership
Mexico City, July, 2025 – Mexico’s tourism sector is on a record-breaking trajectory. From January to May 2025, the country welcomed 39.4 million international visitors, marking a 14.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to Secretary of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.
The month of May alone recorded 7.9 million international arrivals, up 18% year-over-year. Of these, 3.75 million were overnight tourists and 4.19 million were same-day visitors. International tourism revenue for May rose 6.3% over the previous year.
The United States remains Mexico’s top tourism source, contributing 63% of total international visitors. Between January and March 2025, U.S. arrivals rose 5% from 2024 levels. Canadian tourism also surged, with a 13% increase, accounting for nearly 20% of total international travelers.
“Mexico continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s most attractive and dynamic destinations,” said Rodríguez Zamora. “Tourism allows the world to discover our cuisine, culture, and natural beauty, as well as the warmth, diversity, and creativity of our people.”
Between January and May, 19.4 million international tourists arrived, up 6.8% from 2024 and 6.6% over 2019 levels. These travelers generated $14.624 billion USD in foreign revenue, 5.2% higher than 2024 and a remarkable 44.4% above pre-pandemic numbers.
Air arrivals showed strong growth, with 10.2 million travelers arriving by plane. Their average expenditure reached $1,300.50 USD per person, up 6.8% from 2024 and 24.7% from 2019.
Cruise tourism also advanced, with 5 million cruise passengers docking in Mexico, representing a 10% increase over 2024 and nearly 20% over 2019. Cruise-related revenues rose 12% compared to last year and were 48.4% higher than pre-pandemic levels.
Looking ahead, air connectivity with the U.S. remains robust, with 4.6 million scheduled airline seats between both countries for July 2025, a 5.5% increase compared to July 2024.
