Fred Dixon will return to New York City to lead NYC Tourism + Conventions as President and CEO, bringing extensive local experience and a broader global perspective following more than two years at Brand USA.

New York City is bringing back one of the travel industry's most recognized destination marketing leaders. Fred Dixon has been appointed President and CEO of NYC Tourism + Conventions, the organization responsible for promoting New York City as a premier destination for leisure travel, meetings, conventions and major events.

Dixon will officially assume the role on December 1, 2026, following more than two years as President and CEO of Brand USA, the nation's destination marketing organization dedicated to increasing international visitation to the United States.

His return combines extensive knowledge of New York City's tourism industry with a broader understanding of the global travel marketplace gained through his leadership of Brand USA.

Dixon previously served as President and CEO of NYC Tourism + Conventions from 2014 through 2024, becoming one of the city's leading voices for the visitor economy. During that time, he worked with business leaders, elected officials, media and travel partners worldwide to strengthen New York City's position as one of the world's leading destinations.

“Fred Dixon has the rare combination of foundational New York City expertise, national leadership experience and global perspective that this moment requires,” said Charles Flateman, Chairman of the NYC Tourism + Conventions Board.

His experience at Brand USA comes at a critical moment, as destinations around the world compete aggressively for international travelers. Dixon returns to New York with deeper insight into international visitor behavior, global tourism trends and the strategies needed to attract travelers from key markets.

“Returning to lead NYC Tourism + Conventions is an extraordinary honor and responsibility,” Dixon said. “My time at Brand USA gave me a broader perspective on the global travel marketplace and what's required to be competitive for international travelers.”

The appointment also comes as tourism continues to play a major role in New York City's economy. Last year, approximately 65 million visitors traveled to New York City, generating $55.6 billion in direct visitor spending.

The tourism sector supports approximately 400,000 jobs and generates more than $7 billion in tax revenue across the five boroughs, underscoring its importance to the city's economy.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani welcomed Dixon's appointment, emphasizing the importance of experienced leadership as New York competes for visitors from across the United States and around the world.

Dixon's appointment followed a search led by the NYC Tourism + Conventions Board Search Committee, with Russell Reynolds Associates supporting the process.

Until Dixon takes office in December, Board Chairman Charles Flateman will oversee the organization alongside its Executive Leadership Team, ensuring continuity across staff and business operations.

His return signals a renewed focus on strengthening New York City's global tourism position and maximizing the economic benefits generated by visitors across all five boroughs.
