The Argentine driver will remain with BWT Alpine Formula One Team as a race driver alongside Pierre Gasly. The team has confirmed its 2027 driver line-up following a breakthrough 2026 campaign for Colapinto.

BWT Alpine Formula One Team has officially confirmed that Franco Colapinto will remain with the team as a race driver for the 2027 Formula 1 season, continuing alongside French driver Pierre Gasly.

The announcement secures the Argentine's future in Formula 1 and provides further recognition of his development since joining the Alpine project.

Colapinto has enjoyed a strong 2026 season so far, scoring 19 World Championship points and finishing inside the points in six of the 12 Grands Prix contested. After taking tenth place in China, he achieved a then career-best seventh-place finish in Miami in May.

Just two weeks later, the Argentine surpassed that result with an impressive sixth-place finish in Montreal, a performance Alpine highlighted for the maturity, determination and natural talent he demonstrated behind the wheel.

The team has also praised Colapinto's growing relationship with the organisation and his successful integration at Enstone, which the Argentine considers his true home in Formula 1.

Colapinto and Gasly to continue together

The confirmation means that Colapinto and Gasly will remain team-mates for a third consecutive season, having first joined forces in 2025 when the Argentine made his Alpine debut at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.

Alpine believes that maintaining a stable driver line-up will be important as the team continues its development and looks to build momentum for the future.

The team currently sits sixth in the Constructors' Championship, following a strong first half of the 2026 season that has included double-points finishes in China, Canada, Barcelona and Great Britain.

At 23 years old and with 38 Formula 1 starts to his name, Colapinto continues to establish himself in the pinnacle of motorsport. Alongside Gasly, one of the most experienced drivers on the grid, Alpine sees a combination capable of helping the team move forward.

Briatore: “Franco belongs in Formula 1”

Alpine executive advisor Flavio Briatore welcomed the confirmation of the team's 2027 line-up and praised Colapinto's development throughout the season.

“We are very happy to confirm our driver line-up for 2027 with Franco staying as a race driver alongside Pierre. For me, having consistency is very important,” Briatore said.

Highlighting Colapinto's performances in Miami and Montreal, Briatore added: “Franco belongs in Formula One and he belongs at this team.”

The Alpine advisor also stressed that the team's main priority remains the development of a faster and more competitive car capable of challenging at the front of the grid.

Colapinto: “I feel very happy and very settled here”

Colapinto welcomed the decision and expressed his satisfaction at remaining with Alpine for another season.

“I am very pleased to remain with this team in 2027. I feel very happy and very settled here and it's been even better that we have made significant progress this year compared to last,” the Argentine said.

Colapinto thanked Alpine, Briatore and Steve for the trust placed in him and stressed that the team's long-term objective is clear: “to compete and win.”

With his future now confirmed, Colapinto heads into the Italian Grand Prix at Monza with the certainty that he will remain part of Alpine's plans for 2027, as the team looks to build on its progress and continue moving towards the front of Formula 1.
