Los Angeles, California. The wait is almost over. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will officially open Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Universal Studios Hollywood, introducing a major new thrill attraction and the park's first high-speed outdoor roller coaster.

Inspired by Universal Pictures' blockbuster Fast & Furious franchise, the new attraction brings the speed, street racing and high-energy driving sequences of the movies into a full-scale theme park experience.

The coaster reaches speeds of up to 72 mph (116 km/h) and features forces of up to 3.6 G, with approximately 4,100 feet (1,250 meters) of track designed to deliver an intense and immersive ride.

A new kind of Fast & Furious experience

Located in the upper section of Universal Studios Hollywood, the attraction is housed inside a striking red-brick structure inspired by a large garage.

Two static replica cars greet guests at the entrance, while the queue itself becomes part of the experience.

In a technological first for the attraction, a section of the coaster track races through a transparent enclosed area alongside the queue, allowing guests to watch the trains speed past while they wait.

The ride features a unique dual-launch and split-track system, alternating trains as they begin their journey.

The course includes four launches, an inverted loop, a spiral maneuver and an inverted stall, while the individual ride vehicles rotate through 360 degrees to create a drifting sensation.

Four iconic cars

Guests will ride in vehicles inspired by four legendary cars from the franchise: the Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R and Toyota Supra.

Each vehicle features its own independent audio system, delivering realistic engine sounds and effects designed specifically for the ride vehicle.

Because each vehicle can rotate independently, guests can experience different sensations depending on which car they board.

The movies come to life in the queue

The attraction's storytelling begins before guests even board the coaster.

The queue features recreated props and vehicles from the Fast & Furious films, including elements connected to Fast & Furious 5, Fast & Furious 6, F9 and Fast X.

Selected displays include QR codes that provide additional information through Universal Studios' fan platform, the Backlot Club.

Art meets the Fast saga

The arrival platform features an original large-scale mural by acclaimed artist Tristan Eaton, inspired by the final street race from The Fast and the Furious (2001).

The artwork depicts the iconic Dodge Charger and Toyota Supra in a dramatic composition that connects the new attraction to the franchise's origins.

Another mural by Eaton will be displayed in the queue as a tribute to the entire film series.

A coaster built into the Hollywood Hills

Universal Creative faced a unique challenge when designing the attraction: the natural terrain of Universal Studios Hollywood.

Rather than working against the hillside, the design incorporates its natural contours into the coaster's structure.

The result provides riders with panoramic views of the San Fernando Valley, Universal's film studios and the theme park while adding another visual dimension to the experience.

Celebrating 25 years of Fast & Furious

The attraction arrives as the Fast & Furious franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Since the original film debuted in 2001, the franchise has become one of Universal's most recognizable entertainment properties, generating more than $7 billion worldwide, according to recent industry reporting.

The franchise is also preparing for its next cinematic chapter. Fast Forever, the upcoming film, is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on March 17, 2028.
