The FIFA World Cup 2026 is expected to become a major driver of tourism growth across North America, generating significant economic benefits for Canada, Mexico and the United States, according to the latest analysis from the World Travel & Tourism Council.

The organization forecasts that Travel & Tourism GDP will grow by 6.4% in Canada, 2.4% in Mexico and 2.1% in the United States, reinforcing North America's position as one of the world's leading tourism regions.

WTTC believes the tournament represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen long-term tourism growth through enhanced air connectivity, integrated visitor experiences and stronger cross-border cooperation among the host nations.

WTTC President and CEO Gloria Guevara said the event offers a unique opportunity to showcase North America to millions of travelers worldwide while creating lasting economic and tourism benefits beyond the competition itself.

The report also highlights Mexico as North America's strongest tourism performer in 2025. According to WTTC's Economic Impact Research 2026, Mexico's Travel & Tourism GDP grew by 1.8%, outperforming both the United States (0.9%) and Canada (1.2%).

Mexico also led the region in international visitor spending growth, recording a 3.5% increase, while the United States and Canada experienced declines of 4.6% and 3.5%, respectively. International arrivals to Mexico rose 6.1%, contrasting with decreases in both neighboring countries.

WTTC projects that the Travel & Tourism sector will support 30.9 million jobs across North America in 2026, accounting for 12.7% of total regional employment.

Globally, the organization expects the sector to contribute US$12 trillion to the world economy in 2026, representing 9.9% of global GDP and supporting 376 million jobs worldwide.

As Canada, Mexico and the United States prepare to host the FIFA World Cup 2026, the tournament is expected to serve as a powerful catalyst for tourism growth, investment and regional economic development.
