Nestled within the historic Teatro Colón, Blue, located in the Pasaje de los Carruajes, offers an unparalleled gastronomic experience. Whether you're visiting Buenos Aires’ world-renowned theater for a performance, a tour, or simply looking for an exquisite dining experience, this hidden gem, accessible via Tucumán 1171, welcomes guests every day from 9:00 AM to 11:30 PM.
This historic passage, originally used in 1908 for horse-drawn carriages to shelter attendees from the rain or allow discreet entrances, has been transformed into a sophisticated dining venue. Operated by Blue Catering, part of the Grupo L, the restaurant reflects the rich history of the Teatro Colón while offering a modern and refined culinary journey.
A Culinary Experience Inspired by Opera
The menu, designed by Executive Chef Gastón Storace, takes inspiration from the theatrical performances on stage, creating a seamless connection between art and food. "We want what you see on the stage to come alive on your plate," says Silvina Del Grande, Gastronomy and Events Manager for Teatro Colón. This unique concept extends the magic of the theater into a dining experience that engages all senses.
During our visit, we indulged in the current menu inspired by the opera Un ballo in maschera (A Masked Ball) by Giuseppe Verdi. This culinary journey seamlessly blends the drama and elegance of Verdi's masterpiece with exquisite flavors:
- Act I: “The Mask of Deception” – A delicate beef carpaccio with lime aioli, truffle oil, fried capers, and a touch of Dijon mustard. Paired with a 2022 Sauvignon Blanc from Terrazas de los Andes, this dish mirrors the intrigue and depth of operatic drama.
- Act II: “Passion in the Forest” – Braised beef tortellini in a rich, 24-hour demi-glace butter sauce infused with mushrooms and sage. The flavors are accentuated by a Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Pasaje de Altamira.
- Finale: “Revenge and Forgiveness” – A deconstructed tiramisu that encapsulates the emotional highs and lows of an operatic climax. This dessert, paired with an Espresso Martini, offers a perfect balance of bitterness and sweetness.
A Visionary Investment in Teatro Colón's Gastronomy
Grupo L, which includes brands like Blue Catering, Nutrire, and Elevare, has invested over 200 million pesos to enhance the gastronomic spaces within Teatro Colón. The renovations include the recently reopened Confitería Viamonte, located on the theater's second floor, and the foyer bars, which serve guests before and during performances.
"These investments honor the theater’s legacy of art and culture while elevating the dining experience to match its global reputation," explains Eugenia de la Torre Lastra, Coordinator of Institutional Relations, Press, and Sustainability at Grupo L.
Open to All – No Ticket Required
One of the unique aspects of Blue is its accessibility. You don’t need to attend a performance to enjoy its offerings. From themed dinner menus inspired by current productions to delightful breakfasts, brunches, and afternoon tea, Blue caters to a variety of tastes and schedules.
Special dinners featuring Un Ballo in Maschera-inspired menus will take place on select dates between November 28 and December 5, with reservations available at entradas.buenosaires.gob.ar.
