Barbados strengthens airlift strategy and reinforces confidence in North American and European markets
Barbados Minister of Tourism Ian Gooding-Edghill highlighted the country’s continued focus on air connectivity and market stability across North America and Europe during a press briefing held on the sidelines of the Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2026.
During the press briefing, where he was accompanied by Peter Mayers and the CEO of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., Andrea Franklin, the minister emphasized that Barbados is actively monitoring global aviation conditions, including fuel price fluctuations and geopolitical uncertainty, while maintaining a strong and stable airlift strategy supported by key airline partners.
According to Gooding-Edghill, forward bookings and current demand trends show no significant disruption, reinforcing confidence in the island’s tourism performance heading into upcoming travel seasons.
Barbados continues to expand its air service network, particularly from the United Kingdom and Europe, with increased operations from British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, including multiple daily and seasonal frequencies into the island.
The minister also underscored that Barbados has strategically strengthened its presence in the United States market to balance global demand and ensure sustained visitor growth across key source regions.
“We are not seeing any indicators of major concern at this time, but we continue to monitor the situation daily,” he stated, referring to global fuel prices and their potential impact on travel demand.
Gooding-Edghill added that Barbados benefits from its positioning as a “zone of peace” in the Caribbean, which continues to attract travelers seeking stable and safe destinations amid global uncertainty.
He further noted that Latin America is emerging as an important growth opportunity, particularly for multi-destination travel strategies, with Barbados positioned as a regional hub for the Eastern Caribbean.
Overall, the minister reiterated that Barbados remains confident in its airlift strategy, with strong airline partnerships and diversified source markets supporting continued tourism growth.
