Outside, Violet, Novak and Pascal watched in horror, unable to intervene. Now, weeks away from the Season 15 premiere on October 7 at 9 p.m. on NBC, fans still have no certainty about who made it out alive.

What has been confirmed is that new faces are joining Firehouse 51. Actor Da'Vinchi, known for his roles in "BMF" and "All American," has joined the regular cast as Marcus Burke, a firefighter candidate described as "roguish and funny with a wry sense of humor, and also a little defiant." But according to recent comments from actress Jocelyn Hudon (Lyla Novak), Da'Vinchi won't be the only addition: the firehouse will welcome "a bunch of new probies" (probational firefighters) throughout the season, opening the door to several more newcomers beyond Burke.

These additions arrive alongside major departures. Joe Miñoso, who has played Joe Cruz since the show's very first episode 15 years ago, is leaving the series early in the season, though he's expected to appear in multiple episodes before his final exit, which lowers the odds that his character dies in the premiere. Dermot Mulroney's (Chief Dom Pascal) departure was also confirmed, despite the actor's surprise return in the Season 14 finale after having been temporarily replaced by Rob Morgan. Behind the scenes, showrunner Andrea Newman, who had led the series since its first season, is also stepping down, and will be replaced by executive producer Victor Teran.

Meanwhile, the central mystery remains who won't survive the building's collapse. Trade outlets agree that Taylor Kinney (Severide) and Miranda Rae Mayo (Kidd) have already signed on for the new season, lowering the chances their characters will die. That leaves the spotlight on Capp, Tony and Ballard, the three with the smallest roles within the ensemble, as the most likely candidates for an emotionally impactful death that wouldn't gut the main cast. Some analyses, however, suggest the writers could pull a twist and shock fans by writing off a character no one currently considers at real risk.

With the premiere approaching and NBC yet to release an official promo with clues, "Chicago Fire" Season 15 arrives with the formula that made the show popular: new arrivals, emotional goodbyes, and the uncertainty of whether Firehouse 51 will have to mourn one of its own.
