CHTA Activates Disaster Response Fund and Stands in Solidarity with Jamaica After the Devastating Impact of Hurricane Melissa
The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association expresses support for Jamaica and other affected destinations as it mobilizes regional recovery efforts.
The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) has expressed its deep solidarity with the people of Jamaica and other Caribbean nations affected by Hurricane Melissa, a powerful Category 5 storm bringing destructive winds, torrential rainfall, and widespread flooding across the region.
“Our hearts are with the people of Jamaica and all those impacted by Hurricane Melissa,” said CHTA President Sanovnik Destang. “We stand united as a region, supporting communities, tourism and hospitality workers, and local businesses whose lives and livelihoods are being affected. The Caribbean spirit is resilient — together we will recover, rebuild, and rise stronger.”
The CHTA Disaster Response Fund has been activated to assist the destinations most impacted by the hurricane. In coordination with national hotel and tourism associations and regional partners, the fund will mobilize resources to support short- and medium-term recovery efforts in Jamaica and other affected territories.
Guided by the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association (JHTA) and its on-the-ground partners, CHTA will ensure that all efforts are well-coordinated and focused on the most urgent needs. The organization will continue to share updates on relief initiatives and opportunities for industry and public support.
“In times like these, the strength of regional solidarity and our broader CHTA community becomes more vital than ever,” said CHTA CEO Vanessa Ledesma. “We commend the dedication of emergency services, tourism professionals, and community leaders working tirelessly to protect lives and deliver aid. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to standing shoulder to shoulder with our member destinations.”
