Air Ticket Sales by U.S. Travel Agencies Climb in March 2025, Signaling a Strong Start to the Year
U.S.-based travel agencies saw an uptick in air ticket sales in March 2025, with total sales reaching $9.3 billion, according to the latest data from Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC). The figure marks an 8% increase compared to February and holds steady with March 2024, signaling strong momentum in air travel demand.
Passenger volumes also showed healthy growth. ARC-reported total passenger trips in March rose 6% year-over-year to 27.1 million, representing a significant 13% jump from February 2025.
Looking at the first quarter of 2025, air ticket sales totaled $27.3 billion, slightly ahead of the $27.2 billion recorded during the same period last year. Total passenger trips for the quarter also grew by 3% year-over-year, further confirming the positive trend in air travel recovery.
"Monthly U.S. travel agency air ticket sales rebounded in March after a dip in February," said Steve Solomon, chief commercial officer at ARC. "Overall, air travel demand grew slightly more than 3 percent in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, despite global geopolitical uncertainties."
A notable contributor to March's performance was the continued rise of New Distribution Capability (NDC) transactions, which made up 20.3% of all ARC-reported transactions—a 9% year-over-year increase from 18.6% in March 2024.
The steady growth in sales and passenger volumes points to ongoing recovery and resilience in the U.S. travel market, even amid a complex global backdrop.
