Patricia Bullrich Rejects Argentina's Entry into BRICS
"Argentina under our government will not be in the BRICS." The presidential candidate of Together for Change strongly criticized the announcement of President Alberto Fernández
In her presentation, the presidential candidate of Juntos por el Cambio (Together for Change) rejected Argentina's inclusion in the BRICS bloc. She questioned the government's announcement and criticized the President, stating, "He is in an immensely weak position and unable to exercise his role as the leader." Patricia Bullrich announced her opposition to Argentina's entry into BRICS and pledged to lift economic restrictions.
Patricia Bullrich began her speech at the Council of the Americas with explosive remarks. "I want to make one thing very clear: we have expressed our opposition to joining BRICS," affirmed the Pro party leader, hours after Alberto Fernández had announced the country's entry into the bloc and delivered a special message to communicate it.
In her first address to prominent figures in the business world and at an event bringing together presidential candidates for the general elections, Bullrich consistently aimed to convey a sense of order in the event of assuming the Executive role. The leader of Juntos por el Cambio spoke at the Council of the Americas, receiving support from former President Mauricio Macri and strong criticism from President Alberto Fernández. Bullrich's speech took place at the Council of the Americas, where the top three presidential candidates were presenting. Former President Mauricio Macri came out in support of her stance.
Patricia Bullrich, a presidential candidate for Juntos por el Cambio, announced her opposition to Argentina's entry into the BRICS group, which had been announced by President Alberto Fernández earlier that day. "The President of the Nation, who is in an immensely weak position and unable to fulfill his duties, has just committed Argentina to join BRICS at a time when the war is unfolding in Ukraine, alongside Iran—a country with which Argentina has an open and deep wound," stated the former Minister of Security. "The President has just committed Argentina to join BRICS while the invasion of Ukraine is ongoing, and even more significantly, alongside Iran, a country with which Argentina has a profound open wound due to anti-Semitic and anti-Argentine terrorist attacks on our soil," Bullrich argued.
Along the same lines, Bullrich received the support of former President Mauricio Macri. "I agree. In one of his weakest moments, the President is committing us to be part of BRICS while Russia invades Ukraine and to join with Iran, no less."
"With Patricia, it won't be long before Argentina regains its role on the international stage, a role we began building in 2015," Macri tweeted.
During her speech, Bullrich also announced her intention to remove currency exchange restrictions and affirmed that, if she were to assume the presidency, she would work "from the very beginning" to create a new organic charter for the Central Bank. One of her pillars would be "the prohibition of restrictions; never again shall there be restrictions, as they are instruments of torture."
Her speech was comprehensive, offering a glimpse into some of the key principles her government would uphold. She promised to put an end to monetary issuance and to cease "transferring money from the Central Bank to a state that behaves like a pacman devouring everything."
Bullrich began by addressing the looting incidents witnessed during the week, stating that it represents "a lawless society" under "a absent government." "People are left on their own, defending themselves on the streets however they can, losing their own capital. It's a country adrift. That's why we will advocate for order," she said.
She further emphasized that Juntos por el Cambio "has deep-rooted convictions and lessons learned from good and bad times," and that "we are not adventurers." "We can do it. We have a territorial structure that has never been seen in 40 years of democracy. We have a territorial foundation of legislators and governors that anchors us and allows us to have our governance objectives fully aligned," she added.
Bullrich stated that the short-term goal for Juntos por el Cambio is to win the elections in Santa Fe and Rosario, and she linked the looting incidents to the advancement of narcotics trafficking.
"Changing the Economic Regime"
Bullrich unveiled some of her economic guidelines and stated that her aim is to "change the economic regime." "We will restructure fiscal balance. Our first budget will have zero deficit to lower inflation. We will work towards an organic charter for the Central Bank that ensures autonomy. Never again shall there be restrictions, never again shall there be monetary issuance, and never again shall Central Bank funds be transferred to the government. We need to return money to the people, who spend it better than the government," she summarized.
