Hotels, Broadway shows, attractions, and flights will offer exclusive savings as NYC Tourism seeks to strengthen its second-largest international visitor market.

NEW YORK – New York City is rolling out a new tourism campaign designed to encourage Canadians to return to the city, introducing a two-week promotional program featuring discounts on hotels, restaurants, attractions, Broadway shows, and flights.

The initiative, called NYC's Northern Neighbour Deal, will run from August 18 through September 7 and includes special offers at more than 40 hotels, among them the Ace Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel New York. Visitors will also enjoy discounted admission to participating attractions and savings on nine Broadway productions, including Chicago, The Book of Mormon, and Aladdin. Reservations for the program will open on August 4.

To further boost demand, Porter Airlines is offering 20% off flights to New York from Canadian cities for travel between August and mid-December, making the promotion even more attractive for leisure travelers planning a fall getaway.

According to Julie Coker, the campaign reflects the city's commitment to one of its most valuable international markets. Canada remains New York City's second-largest source of international visitors, although annual arrivals have declined from nearly one million visitors in 2019 to just over 800,000 in recent years. While visitor numbers are showing signs of recovery in 2026, city officials hope the new incentives will accelerate that rebound.

The campaign also comes as ongoing trade tensions between Canada and the United States have encouraged many Canadians to vacation closer to home, supporting domestic tourism. Even so, New York City Tourism believes its longstanding relationship with Canadian travelers remains strong and sees the promotion as an investment in rebuilding cross-border tourism.

The initiative follows similar efforts elsewhere in North America. Earlier this year, several Las Vegas hotels accepted the Canadian dollar at par, while the Buffalo Bisons baseball team introduced discounted tickets for Canadian fans, highlighting the growing competition among U.S. destinations to attract visitors from Canada.
