Barbados reinforced its status as one of the Caribbean's leading tourism destinations by hosting Connect Barbados 2026, the flagship B2B conference organized by the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI). The event brought together international buyers, tour operators, airlines, travel advisors, media representatives, and local tourism stakeholders for a week focused on building partnerships, expanding business opportunities, and showcasing the island's rich cultural heritage.

Held at the Hilton Barbados Resort under the theme "Rooted in Culture, Driven by Collaboration," Connect Barbados 2026 highlighted how the destination successfully combines authentic Barbadian culture with world-class tourism experiences, strengthening its appeal in the global travel marketplace.

One of the conference's biggest milestones was a 51% increase in international buyers, welcoming 92 buyers representing 83 companies, a clear indication of the growing global interest in Barbados.

Andrea Franklin, Chief Executive Officer of BTMI, emphasized that the strong participation reflects the destination's momentum, supported by significant investments in new hotel developments, renovations of existing properties, and improved air connectivity through new international routes.

"We are seeing sustained confidence in Barbados as a tourism destination," Franklin said, noting that the island continues to attract travelers and industry partners looking for authentic Caribbean experiences.

Minister of Tourism and International Transport Ian Gooding-Edghill reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring tourism benefits all Barbadians.

"Our focus is to increase visitor spending while expanding opportunities for Barbadians to participate, invest, and benefit from the tourism industry. We want tourism to contribute meaningfully to the development of communities across the island," he said.

Culture at the Heart of the Experience

The opening ceremony celebrated Barbados' vibrant culture with interactive experiences featuring local artisans demonstrating traditional basket weaving, textile arts, batik design, pottery, and live illustration.

Guests also enjoyed energetic performances by the Queen of Soca, Alison Hinds, and the Christ Church Foundation Steel Orchestra, showcasing the island's dynamic musical heritage.

Barbados' culinary excellence was equally on display as award-winning chefs Javon Cummins, Damian Leach, Marvin Applewhaite, and Trevon Stoute, together with the Hilton Barbados culinary team, presented an impressive selection of local cuisine. Renowned mixologist Shane McClean completed the evening with signature cocktails inspired by the island.

Building New Business Opportunities

At the core of Connect Barbados 2026 was an extensive schedule of pre-arranged one-on-one business meetings connecting international buyers with hotels, attractions, transportation providers, destination management companies, and other tourism suppliers.

These meetings are designed to generate new partnerships and strengthen Barbados' position as a premier Caribbean destination while creating long-term business opportunities for the local tourism industry.

The conference also honored outstanding travel trade partners, journalists, content creators, tour operators, and industry stakeholders whose work has helped inspire travelers to visit Barbados and promote the destination worldwide.

The event concluded with the traditional Attractions Day, allowing delegates to experience some of Barbados' most iconic sites before attending a vibrant closing celebration featuring fire dancers, stilt walkers, masquerade performers, and cultural entertainment that captured the island's creativity and spirit.

More than just a business conference, Connect Barbados 2026 reaffirmed that culture and collaboration remain essential drivers of sustainable tourism growth, positioning Barbados as a destination that offers both authentic experiences and strong commercial opportunities for the global travel industry.
