The Attacker's Identity
Authorities have identified Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, 42 years old and an American citizen, as the perpetrator of the attack that occurred just after 3:15 AM local time (09:15 GMT). Jabbar died during the attack.
Jabbar used a rented white Ford F-150 truck for the mass vehicular attack on Bourbon Street, the city's tourist heart, which was closed to traffic during the New Year's celebrations.
Authorities found an ISIS flag, weapons, and a possible improvised explosive device inside the vehicle.
Additionally, the FBI discovered homemade explosives in the central neighborhood where the attack took place and is working to identify and locate potential accomplices of Jabbar.
Connection Between New Orleans Attack and Las Vegas Explosion?
As mentioned, Biden announced that authorities are investigating a possible connection between the New Orleans mass vehicular attack and the Las Vegas vehicle explosion.
"There is nothing to report at this time," Biden said in a statement from Camp David.
Hours after the New Orleans attack, a vehicle exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, an incident now being investigated as a potential act of terrorism.
Both Jabbar and the driver of the vehicle in Las Vegas, whose identity remains unknown, are dead.
The vehicle that exploded outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas was loaded with gas cylinders, camping fuel tanks, and high-caliber fireworks mortars, according to the Las Vegas Police Department.
New York Shooting Was Not a Terrorist Attack
On the other hand, the shooting that occurred on Wednesday night in the Queens neighborhood of New York, near a nightclub, in which at least 10 people were injured, "was not a terrorist attack," the New York Police Department (NYPD) reported.
The incident took place near the 'Amazura' nightclub in the Jamaica area of Queens, just hours after the terrorist attack in New Orleans and the explosion of a Cybertruck near the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas that killed one person.
