FAA Awards $566 Million for Airport Modernization Across 47 States
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced a new round of airport improvement funding, granting $566.4 million across 47 states. This significant investment, part of the ninth round of the Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program, aims to modernize and enhance safety at U.S. airports.
The funding will support a variety of projects, including the construction of deicing pads, taxiways, aircraft parking areas, and terminal expansions. Nearly half of the nation’s 3,000 airports have benefited from federal funding under the 2021 infrastructure law, demonstrating a broad commitment to improving airport infrastructure nationwide.
Some key projects include:
Kailua/Kona Ellison Onizuka Kona International, Hawaii: $49.6 million for runway rehabilitation to enhance safety.
Seattle-Tacoma International, Washington: $45.4 million for structural and seismic upgrades to Concourse S.
Charlotte/Douglas International, North Carolina: $43.3 million for constructing a deicing pad, taxiways, and other facilities.
Louisville Muhammad Ali International, Kentucky: $34.6 million for terminal expansion and the addition of a TSA checkpoint and solar microgrid.
Harry Reid International, Nevada: $20.6 million for elevator replacements to improve safety and ADA compliance.
This funding highlights the FAA's ongoing efforts to ensure that U.S. airports remain safe, efficient, and capable of handling growing passenger numbers.
