U.S. Travel endorses bipartisan effort to create White House Task Force on Global Sporting Events
As the United States gears up for a decade of major global sporting events, the U.S. Travel Association is throwing its support behind a bipartisan effort to ensure the nation is fully prepared to host these monumental gatherings. With events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2028 and 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the 2031 Rugby World Cup on the horizon, the stakes are high for showcasing the U.S. as a top travel destination.
Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Jerry Moran (R-KS) have taken the lead in organizing a bipartisan letter urging the Biden administration to create a White House Task Force on Global Sporting Events. This proposed task force would be pivotal in addressing the complex logistics and security challenges that accompany such large-scale events, ensuring a seamless and secure experience for the millions of international visitors expected to flood U.S. cities.
Geoff Freeman, President and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "The creation of this task force is essential for our success as we enter a mega-decade of sporting events in the U.S. We look forward to working with our partners across both the public and private sectors to make the most of this unmatched opportunity to showcase U.S. destinations and cement our position as the top global travel destination."
The bipartisan effort underscores the need for meticulous preparation to manage everything from security to visa processing. Senator Klobuchar highlighted the economic and leadership opportunities these events present, noting, “For these events to be successful, we must be prepared and ready to welcome visitors. That is why I am requesting that our government create a Task Force on Global Sporting Events to manage the preparation and security of the games.”
Senator Moran added, “With the United States set to host multiple major international sporting events across the next decade, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Kansas City, security and visa processing must be a top priority.”
As the countdown to these high-profile events begins, the proposed task force is positioned as a crucial step toward ensuring that the United States not only meets but exceeds global expectations, leaving a lasting legacy as the premier host of international sports.
