U.S. President Joe Biden and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva are calling on Venezuela’s government to release detailed voting data from the presidential election.

U.S. President Joe Biden and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Tuesday agreed that Venezuela must release detailed voting data from Sunday’s presidential vote after electoral authorities friendly to President Nicolás Maduro declared him the winner in a result disputed by the opposition.

In a statement, National Security Council spokesperson ADRIENNE WATSON said there are “clear signs that the election results announced by Venezuela’s National Electoral Council do not reflect the will of the Venezuelan people as it was expressed at the ballot box on July 28,” but again stopped short of explicitly calling the election fraudulent. She also reiterated the administration’s push for Venezuela “to release full, transparent, and detailed voting results, including by polling station.”

The government meanwhile ratcheted up its attacks on the main opposition coalition, suggesting its leader Maria Corina Machado and her handpicked presidential candidate should be arrested.

The Organization of American States (OAS) has condemned the Venezuelan government's "abhorrent" manipulation of election results, urging Maduro to "accept his electoral defeat."

The opposition has taken to the streets to protest the CNE's results, leading to severe repression that has resulted in at least six deaths and hundreds of arrests.

The National Electoral Council, which is loyal to the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela, has said Maduro won the election. The opposition says that its candidate, Edmundo González, secured more than twice as many votes as the incumbent, and that it has voting precinct data to prove it. The council has yet to release any figures at the polling station level.
