Mexico: 286 those killed by the quake last Tuesday

72 hours after the earthquake of 7.1 that shook the country, relatives of victims are asking them to continue the search and rescue work. President Peña Nieto confirmed: "We will continue to look for the people left behind in the rubble".

At the moment, the number of dead people is 286, including 148 in Mexico City, 73 in Morelos, 45 in Puebla, 13 in the state of Mexico, 6 in Guerrero and one in Oaxaca, confirmed the coordinator Civil Protection of the Ministry of the Interior of Mexico, Luis Felipe Puente. The official also said Thursday that "no heavy machinery is being used in collapsed structures" and that its use is limited to "cleaning tasks".

Puente asked the population to ignore rumors, "We have not stopped or stop looking for and try to rescue the survivors and we are emphatic because they have spread rumors and false information, in some cases it has been necessary to move forward with greater precaution and with stricter controls due to the risks presented by structures, it is false that structures are being demolished where there may be survivors or missing persons".

The figure, however, could increase in the coming hours, as many people are still missing. Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has admitted that there may be survivors in a dozen of the 38 collapsed buildings in the capital.

International rescuers began to arrive in the country, the United Nations and Israel brigades, designated by the United Nations as the most specialized, installed their base of operations in the capital of the country; also came specialists from Honduras, El Salvador Panama and 72 Japanese rescuers.

In battered Mexico City, rescue efforts focused on 10 collapsed buildings where people could still be alive. Some 52 buildings collapsed only in the capital, and more collapsed in the surrounding states. The head of government of Mexico City, Miguel Angel Mancera, said that 50 people were missing. In the central neighborhood of Rome, rescuers battle for at least 23 missing in what was a seven-storey building and is now a mountain of ruins. Of the rubble of that building, the relief teams have taken 28 people alive so far, according to official lists.
