Dominica reports record tourism growth and major infrastructure expansion at CHTA Marketplace 2026
The CEO of the Discover Dominica Authority and Director of Tourism for Dominica, Marva Williams, presented strong tourism growth figures, expanded air access, and major infrastructure developments during the Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2026, where Dominica participated as a Gold Sponsor.
Williams said Dominica is entering one of the most transformative periods in its tourism development, driven by increased visitor demand, strategic infrastructure investment, and growing global interest in nature-based, wellness, and sustainable travel.
Official data showed total visitor arrivals increased by 15% in 2025, reaching nearly half a million visitors, supported by growth in both stayover and cruise segments.
Stayover arrivals rose by 19%, surpassing pre-pandemic levels, while cruise tourism also recorded its strongest performance in more than a decade, reflecting sustained demand for the destination.
A key highlight was Dominica’s international airport project, currently under construction and expected to be completed for the winter 2027 season. The airport will significantly enhance long-haul connectivity with a 2,850-meter runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft.
In the short term, Dominica continues to expand airlift through Douglas-Charles Airport, including services from Miami and Newark, as well as regional connections via Contour Airlines to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Williams also highlighted flagship developments such as the world’s longest cable car project under construction, geothermal energy investments, and the establishment of the world’s first sperm whale reserve, reinforcing Dominica’s positioning as a leader in sustainable tourism.
She reaffirmed that Dominica is strengthening its global profile as a top destination for authentic, nature-driven Caribbean experiences, supported by strong growth momentum and long-term infrastructure planning.
