President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race on Sunday, following a contentious debate with Donald Trump that cast doubts on his candidacy just months before the election.

Biden's decision comes amidst mounting pressure from Democratic allies, sparked by his performance in the June 27 debate where the 81-year-old president appeared disjointed, often delivering incoherent responses and failing to challenge Trump's falsehoods.

Former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton expressed gratitude to Biden "for all he has accomplished" and pledged their support for Kamala Harris, stating they will do everything possible to bolster her campaign.

The Clintons noted Biden's "remarkable career" in guiding the U.S. through an unprecedented pandemic, creating millions of jobs, rebuilding a battered economy, strengthening democracy, and restoring America's global standing.

They emphasized Biden's leadership in advancing the founders' vision of a more perfect union and his stated goal of "restoring the soul of our nation," a theme central to Biden's 2020 campaign.

"Now is the time to rally behind Kamala Harris and fight with all our might to elect her," they added. "The future of America depends on it."
