US Travel Association Members Participate in Advanced Security Checkpoint Demonstration at Harry Reid International Airport
Las Vegas, NV – Members of the US Travel Association recently had the opportunity to participate in a demonstration of advanced security checkpoint technology at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. Hosted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and DHS Science & Technology Directorate, the demonstration showcased cutting-edge advancements aimed at enhancing transportation security and transforming the travel process.
TSA Administrator David Pekoske, along with TSA officials, joined leaders from the US Travel Association, including CEO Geoff Freeman, and members of the Seamless and Secure Travel Commission, to witness firsthand the innovative technologies being implemented at the airport.
The visit marked the beginning of a series of field meetings for the Commission, which is focused on understanding the challenges and opportunities faced by federal partners in the travel industry. These insights will inform the Commission's recommendations for improving the travel experience, which are set to be released later this year.
During the demonstration, experts from TSA and the DHS Science and Technology Directorate presented state-of-the-art technologies designed to enhance transportation security. Commission members were able to experience firsthand how these innovations will be integrated into the travel process. One notable example was the demonstration of TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, showcasing TSA's commitment to collaboration with industry partners like United Airlines and Delta Air Lines.
The Commission, formed in response to a study on America's global competitiveness, consists of former government officials and private sector experts tasked with creating policy recommendations to modernize travel, increase U.S. competitiveness, and facilitate growth.
The visit to Las Vegas provided an opportunity for TSA and DHS Science & Technology Directorate to highlight the latest innovations in transportation security and the travel experience. The Commission members expressed gratitude to Administrator David Pekoske and all TSA and DHS officials for their dedicated efforts and collaboration.
"We look forward to strengthening our partnership," said Geoff Freeman, CEO of the US Travel Association. "Special thanks to Rosemary Vassiliadis for hosting us, and to Commission members Kevin McAleenan, Patricia Cogswell, Seth Stodder, and Stewart Baker for their participation."
The Commission will continue to engage with federal agencies during additional field visits in the coming months to further explore best practices and opportunities for improving and growing travel. Their comprehensive report is expected to be delivered later this year.
