Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort leads Earth Week initiatives in Aruba with strong environmental commitment
Aruba – In celebration of Earth Day, Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort hosted a full week of environmental initiatives under its “Earth Week” program, further strengthening its position as a leader in sustainability across the Caribbean. The initiative focused on environmental protection, awareness, and community engagement with the island.
One of the key highlights was a beach cleanup at Eagle Beach, carried out in collaboration with the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association, which organized a simultaneous island-wide effort. The activity brought together hundreds of volunteers and tourism stakeholders in a collective action to protect the environment.
The resort’s environmental commitment has deep roots. In the early 1990s, owner Ewald Biemans founded AHATA’s Environmental Committee and launched the “Sponsor-a-Mile” initiative, a pioneering program encouraging the hospitality industry to take direct responsibility for Aruba’s beaches. More than 33 years later, that philosophy remains in place, with Bucuti’s team conducting coastal cleanups every third Wednesday of the month.
Today, this legacy continues under the leadership of Crescenzia Biemans, Chief Corporate Officer of the resort, representing a new generation committed to sustainability.
“For more than 33 years, every single month, we have cleaned a mile of Aruba’s beaches. This tradition began with my grandfather, and we are proud to keep it alive—especially on such a meaningful occasion as Earth Day,” said Crescenzia Biemans.
She also emphasized the importance of collective action:
“Today is particularly special as it is part of an island-wide cleanup organized by AHATA. We are proud to take part and to be joined by students, strategic partners, and our own guests, who contribute with dedication every month.”
During the main Earth Week cleanup, a total of 104 volunteers participated along the resort’s designated beach stretch, including 32 Bucuti team members, 9 volunteers from JetBlue in Aruba, 56 students from Mon Plaisir Elementary School, and 7 hotel guests who actively joined during their stay.
The results were significant: 12 bags of waste and two large bins were collected, along with approximately 50 kilograms of bulky debris. Students gathered 45.48 kg, while the resort team collected an additional 38.36 kg, demonstrating the tangible impact of collaborative efforts.
The initiative was also supported by De Palm Tours, which provided transportation for the students, enabling their participation in this educational and environmental experience.
The resort also highlighted the involvement of its guests, who chose to dedicate part of their vacation to supporting environmental conservation. This reflects a growing trend in global tourism: the demand for meaningful, purpose-driven travel experiences.
With this new edition of Earth Week, Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort reinforces the idea that a pristine beach is not a luxury, but a shared responsibility among the community, private sector, and visitors alike.
