MADRID – January 16, 2026 – Spanish singer Julio Iglesias publicly broke his silence on Friday, firmly denying allegations of sexual abuse made by two former employees, as Spain’s National Court Prosecutor’s Office (Audiencia Nacional) confirmed it has opened an investigation into the case.

In a statement published on his official Instagram account, the 82-year-old artist rejected the accusations, calling them false and deeply distressing.

With deep sorrow, I respond to the accusations made by two people who previously worked in my home. I deny having abused, coerced, or disrespected any woman,” Iglesias wrote.

This marks the first time the singer has directly addressed the allegations, which were revealed earlier this week through a joint investigation by Spanish outlet elDiario.es and U.S.-based Univision Noticias. Until now, his representatives had indicated that the situation would be clarified through legal channels.

“I have never felt such malice”

In a strong personal statement, Iglesias added:
I have never felt such malice, but I still have the strength to ensure that the truth is known and to defend my dignity against such a grave offense.”

He also expressed gratitude for the support he has received: “I cannot forget the countless dear friends who have sent me messages of affection and loyalty; they have brought me great comfort.”

Shortly after the statement was published, Iglesias’ wife, Miranda Rynsburger, publicly voiced her support for the first time. “Always by your side,” she wrote on Instagram, accompanied by a heart emoji.

Allegations and legal proceedings

According to the investigation, the alleged incidents occurred at Iglesias’ residences in the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, and Spain. The two women—one a domestic worker and the other a physiotherapist—allegedly suffered sexual assaults, degrading treatment, and systematic workplace humiliation.

The Spanish Prosecutor’s Office confirmed it received the complaint on January 5 and subsequently opened preliminary investigative proceedings. The women will testify as protected witnesses and are represented by the international legal organization Women’s Link.

The accusers reportedly submitted employment documents, photographs, audio recordings, WhatsApp messages, call logs, and immigration permit requests linked to Iglesias’ international travel.

At a press conference in Madrid, Giovana Ríos, executive director of Women’s Link, stated that other former employees of the singer have contacted the organization, though she declined to provide details to protect their privacy.

Legal defense

Julio Iglesias has retained prominent Madrid-based lawyer José Antonio Choclán, known for representing high-profile clients, including Cristiano Ronaldo, to lead his defense.

While the investigation remains in its early stages and the presumption of innocence applies, the case has sent shockwaves through Spain’s cultural and entertainment spheres, casting a shadow over one of the most iconic figures in Latin music history.
