Barbados – The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) opened this year’s Caribbean Hotel Industry Exchange Forum (CHIEF) with the announcement of its 2025 award winners, honoring the most innovative and impactful initiatives in the region’s tourism sector. Held in Barbados from November 16–18, the annual forum once again highlighted the leadership and resilience that define Caribbean hospitality.

The CHIEF Awards, one of the region’s most respected industry recognitions, spotlight excellence in five competitive categories: Environmental Sustainability, People Development and Support, Innovative Sales and Marketing, Social Responsibility, and Tech Transformation. The 2025 finalists represented 12 destinations, underscoring the diversity and depth of talent shaping the Caribbean’s tourism future.

In the category of Environmental Sustainability, Curtain Bluff (Antigua) received top honors for its longstanding, holistic environmental strategy. With more than a decade of measurable progress supported by its Green Globe Platinum Certification, the resort has integrated advanced water systems, energy efficiency, waste reduction practices and strong community engagement.

Jamaica’s iconic Half Moon was recognized in People Development and Support for its comprehensive employee-centered approach. Its wellness programs, enhanced learning platforms and technology-supported training have helped maintain the resort’s world-class Forbes-rated service.

Aruba’s Boardwalk Hotel won the Innovative Sales and Marketing category for its “Slow Summer” campaign, which redefined the low season as a period for mindful travel and personal well-being. The initiative boosted occupancy, strengthened community partnerships and championed the slow-living philosophy.

The Rockhouse Foundation (Jamaica) earned the Social Responsibility award for its investment of over US$11 million in rebuilding public schools, supporting inclusive education and strengthening local community programs across Westmoreland Parish.

In the field of Tech Transformation, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort (U.S. Virgin Islands) was celebrated for its digital strategy, which successfully shifted the property back to direct bookings. Through streamlined online tools, improved communication channels and guest-centric engagement, the resort reduced OTA dependency and enhanced overall profitability.

“Once again, the CHIEF Awards shine a bright light on the creativity, innovation and heart that drive Caribbean hospitality,” said CHTA President Sanovnik Destang. “This year’s winners remind us that sustainable and inclusive tourism is not only essential for our future—it is our responsibility. At a time when climate change continues to affect our communities, including our colleagues in Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa, these best practices inspire resilience and purpose.”
