EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France — U.S. President Donald Trump emerged as a key figure at the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, where world leaders focused on the conflicts involving Iran and Ukraine, as well as the growing concerns over global energy security.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other G7 leaders, Trump described the discussions as “very good” and reiterated his belief that Russia should move toward signing a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine.

The meeting came at a critical moment for Kyiv, as Zelenskyy continues seeking stronger political and military support from Western allies. European leaders used the summit to emphasize Ukraine’s recent progress and the importance of maintaining international backing.

The crisis in the Middle East also dominated the agenda. Trump welcomed progress toward a preliminary agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at extending the fragile ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy shipping routes.

French President Emmanuel Macron said European nations stand ready to support efforts to secure maritime navigation in the region and restore the free flow of energy supplies to global markets.

Despite signs of diplomatic progress, significant challenges remain, including uncertainty over Israel’s military operations in Lebanon and the implementation of verification mechanisms needed to ensure compliance with any future agreement.

Leaders also discussed strategies to strengthen critical mineral supply chains, although some of Washington’s proposals faced skepticism among G7 partners due to concerns regarding costs, governance, and market regulation.

As negotiations continue in Evian-les-Bains, G7 leaders are seeking common ground to reduce geopolitical tensions and stabilize global markets amid multiple international crises.
