María Corina Machado stated that Edmundo González Urrutia obtained 70% of the votes and is the elected president of Venezuela
María Corina Machado denies Maduro's victory. "We have the documents showing our triumph," says María Corina Machado. "We won, and everyone knows it."
In an atmosphere filled with celebration and vindication, María Corina Machado, the opposition leader barred from participating in the presidential elections, announced that she has obtained documents supporting their electoral victory. Amid applause and smiles, Machado declared that Edmundo González Urrutia received 70% of the votes and is the elected president of Venezuela. "We have the documents showing our triumph," she said.
From the beginning of her speech, Machado highlighted the tireless work of her teams over the past 24 hours: "Our witnesses, coordinators, and those who digitized the documents did an exceptional job." She also challenged the regime by pointing out that they have genuine documents that contrast with those announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
"At this moment, I am excited to announce that we have 73.20% of the documents, declaring Edmundo González Urrutia as our elected president," Machado stated while showing a link to check data not published by the CNE.
In response to the protests that occurred in various parts of the country throughout the afternoon, Machado described them as legitimate expressions against an illegitimate regime that seeks to deny the truth. She also called for a citizens' meeting on Tuesday morning, inviting all Venezuelans who voted for change to join in assemblies throughout Venezuela.
For his part, Edmundo González Urrutia, surrounded by applause, reaffirmed the strength of his victory: "We have in our hands the documents that demonstrate our categorical and irreversible triumph." The diplomat, who served as ambassador in Buenos Aires from 1998 to 2002, assured that the will of the Venezuelan people expressed at the polls will be respected as the only path to peace.
"Our victory is historic," González Urrutia emphasized, noting that democratic forces won in places where they had not triumphed in the last 25 years. Finally, he called for maintaining calm and firmness in the struggle for the country's freedom.
The situation is still developing as we await the official response from the CNE to the opposition's claims.
