"I hope [the album] brings you some happiness," she said through tears. “And I hope it makes you smile, and I hope it makes you dance. I hope I make you proud.”
On ‘Break My Heart’, Lipa questions whether falling in love with someone new will result in yet more pain. Continuing the ’80s-inspired style of previous cuts, the track credits INXS‘s Michael Hutchence and Andrew Farriss as co-writers owing to its ‘Need You Tonight’ sample.
She took to Instagram live earlier this week to announce her decision to move her album from April 3 to the new date, acknowledging that the current global Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic played a pivotal role. "I hope [the album] brings you some happiness," she said through tears. “And I hope it makes you smile, and I hope it makes you dance. I hope I make you proud. ”
The track, which samples INXS’s “Need You Tonight” from 1987, also features a chorus that is eerily timely given the current wave of self-quarantines and isolation at home. She sings, “I would've stayed at home, 'cause I was always better alone / But when you said' hello ', I knew it was the end of it all / I should've stayed at home,' cause now there ain't no letting you go / Am I falling in love with the one that could break my heart? ”
During an emotional Instagram Live video earlier this week Lipa announced that she had pushed forward the album. She suggested that the ongoing coronavirus crisis played a part in the change.
Elsewhere, Lipa opened up about how her upcoming new song ‘Boys Will Be Boys’ raises the issue of sexual harassment head-on.
