France Crush Iraq 3-0 as Mbappé Scores Twice to Reach World Cup 2026 Round of 32
France secured its place in the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026 with an impressive 3-0 victory over Iraq in Philadelphia, powered by a brilliant performance from Kylian Mbappé.
The match was heavily disrupted by severe weather, with a nearly two-hour delay caused by electrical storms. However, the interruption did little to slow down the French side, which dominated proceedings from start to finish.
Mbappé opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a stunning long-range strike that gave Iraq's goalkeeper no chance. The goal marked his 15th career World Cup goal, further cementing his place among the tournament's all-time great scorers.
France controlled possession throughout the first half and limited Iraq to very few attacking opportunities. The European side repeatedly threatened through Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé and Michael Olise.
Following the lengthy weather delay, France resumed its dominance. In the 54th minute, Mbappé capitalized on a defensive misunderstanding between defender Zaid Tahsen and goalkeeper Graham Arnold to score his second goal of the night.
Ousmane Dembélé completed the scoring in the 65th minute after sustained French pressure, making it 3-0 and putting the result beyond doubt.
The victory gives France two wins from two matches in Group I and guarantees qualification for the Round of 32. With another outstanding performance, Mbappé strengthened his credentials as one of the leading contenders for the Golden Boot and a key figure in France's pursuit of another World Cup title.
