India Celebrates 79th Independence Day with Focus on Development and Nation-Building
India marked its 79th Independence Day with the traditional hoisting of the tricolour at the Red Fort, accompanied by a speech from Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasizing infrastructure, digitalization, and youth-led innovation. Modi also addressed persistent challenges, including employment and rural prosperity.
Cultural programs were held nationwide in schools, offices, and community centers, highlighting regional traditions and stories of lesser-known revolutionaries. State governments introduced new welfare initiatives, focusing on health and education.
In a notable moment, Modi praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from the ramparts of the Red Fort, ahead of its centenary celebrations this October. Calling the RSS “the world’s largest NGO,” Modi emphasized its role in nation-building, disaster relief, and rural development, from the Kerala and Assam floods to Cyclone Fani, as well as its relief work during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Modi’s acknowledgment of the RSS also carried political significance, signaling unity between the organisation and the BJP. “With the resolve of ‘vyakti nirman se rashtra nirman,’ with the aim of welfare of Maa Bharati, swayamsevaks dedicated their lives to the welfare of our motherland,” Modi said, highlighting the group’s discipline, dedication, and organisational impact on Indian society.
India’s Independence Day celebrations reflected both national pride and a vision for growth, innovation, and continued nation-building.
