Donald Trump evacuated after shots fired at White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Washington, D.C., April 25, 2026. — U.S. President Donald Trump was abruptly escorted off stage by Secret Service agents after shots were fired during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton.
Authorities confirmed that Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and senior cabinet members are safe. In a statement on social media, Trump said the suspected shooter had been apprehended and praised law enforcement for their “quick and brave” response.
The incident caused widespread panic among attendees, with more than 2,000 guests taking cover under tables after hearing multiple gunshots. CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, who was near the scene, reported hearing shots from just a few feet away.
Preliminary reports suggest the shooting occurred near the ballroom area, possibly in the hotel lobby, before the suspect was subdued by law enforcement.
The annual event—one of Washington’s most prominent gatherings of political leaders, journalists, and celebrities—was briefly halted. Organizers later indicated the program may resume once security conditions are fully restored.
Federal authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and whether the president was specifically targeted. No confirmed casualties among attendees have been reported so far.
