Date set for Sahara Las Vegas official return to Vegas Strip
SLS slated to officially become SAHARA on Aug. 29.
The Sahara returns to its new digs on Aug. 29 with the name change part of the property's $150 million renovations, according to a property spokesperson, as a few transformations are already underway that include hotel lobby updates with additional enhancements for guests checking in.
SLS owner Alex Meruelo told he was excited about these upcoming changes and hopes to make the Sahara a big part of the ever-growing city.
“We’ll change the floors, the restaurants, bars, nightclubs, the theater the rooms... every detail whether it be small or large will change," Meruelo said.
The original Sahara hotel-casino opened in 1952 and was known through the years for its entertainment - being a home base for the Rat Pack and featuring other performers such as Barbra Streisand, Sonny & Cher, and many others - until it closed its doors in 2011.
The property reopened in August 2014 after a $415 million conversion at that time under the name SLS - Style, Luxury and Service.
Now, the Sahara is once again returning to the Vegas Strip skyline with further updated amenities also planned to be announced.
