Chicago is experiencing a pivotal moment of tourism transformation and international growth, with a series of new developments reinforcing its position as one of the most dynamic urban destinations in the United States. That was the message delivered by Kristen Reynolds, President and CEO of Choose Chicago, during a presentation to international media as part of the destination’s promotional activities.

“Hello friends from Argentina. We are very excited to welcome you to Chicago. The city is experiencing a unique moment,” Reynolds said, highlighting the rapid expansion of the city’s cultural, culinary and entertainment offerings that are reshaping the visitor experience.

One of the most important announcements is the upcoming opening of the Obama Presidential Center, scheduled for June 19, 2026. The project is emerging as one of the most anticipated attractions in the world and is already positioning itself as a new landmark for cultural tourism in the United States.

According to Reynolds, the complex — also referred to as the “Home for Hope” — will feature spaces dedicated to art, contemporary architecture and immersive exhibits, including a recreation of the Oval Office during Barack Obama’s presidency.

Chicago is also investing heavily in new urban experiences in the heart of the city. Among them is the Candy Hall of Fame, an educational and immersive attraction located along the Magnificent Mile, where visitors will learn about the history of the candy industry, which has deep roots in Chicago.

Another major addition is “The Hand and the Eye,” an innovative dinner show concept combining fine dining with live magic performances. Developed inside a historic mansion with an investment of approximately $50 million, the venue promises a different experience with every visit.

Reynolds also emphasized the impact of major international events such as the James Beard Awards, along with the ongoing renovation of the United Center, one of the city’s leading sports and entertainment venues.

At the same time, Chicago continues expanding its hospitality sector with new hotels, cultural venues and musical theaters, further reinforcing its image as a constantly evolving destination.

The CEO of Choose Chicago also highlighted the city’s dual seasonal appeal: the vibrant summer season known as “Summertime Chi” and its growing winter tourism appeal, when Chicago transforms with holiday lights, festive events and shopping experiences.

“Chicago is a city that can be enjoyed all year round,” Reynolds emphasized, noting that the city’s strong sense of community and local energy are part of its tourism identity.

One of the major milestones of 2026 will be the centennial celebration of the historic Route 66, which officially begins in Chicago. To commemorate the anniversary, the city has redesigned the official starting point of the route at Navy Pier, where a new commemorative marker will be installed.

The celebration will feature special events, cultural activations throughout different neighborhoods, film premieres at the Art Institute of Chicago and a digital platform dedicated exclusively to the Route 66 centennial.

The route extends all the way to Santa Monica Pier in California, offering travelers a unique tourism experience across one of America’s most iconic highways.

Finally, Choose Chicago launched the campaign “All for the Love of Chicago,” encouraging residents and visitors to create video content sharing authentic experiences from the city through official social media platforms.

“We want people to tell their own Chicago story,” Reynolds concluded, highlighting the participatory focus of the city’s new global marketing strategy.

With these initiatives, Chicago is positioning itself in 2026 as a destination in full expansion, combining history, pop culture, urban innovation and internationally significant events.
