Saint Lucia Strengthens Growth Strategy Through Source Markets, Air Connectivity and Event Tourism Expansion
Saint Lucia presented a positive tourism performance update during Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2026, highlighting growth in visitor arrivals, stronger performance in key source markets, and a diversification strategy focused on events, wellness tourism, and hotel investment.
The presentation was led by Louis Lewis, CEO of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, together with Director of Global Marketing Dexter Percil.
During the official press conference, Lewis reported that Saint Lucia is recording a 2% year-over-year increase in arrivals so far this year, following a slower 2025 performance. The United States remains the island’s leading source market, accounting for approximately 60% of total arrivals, while Canada is showing a strong recovery with growth close to 15%.
At the same time, European markets are beginning to respond positively after the destination strengthened its representation in strategic countries such as Germany and France. According to tourism officials, this renewed commercial presence is expected to improve Saint Lucia’s positioning within long-haul travel segments.
Lewis also emphasized that Saint Lucia is experiencing one of the most important expansion cycles in its tourism infrastructure, with several hotel projects currently under development aimed at reinforcing the island’s luxury and wellness offerings. In this context, he highlighted the destination’s growing consolidation in both the romance and wellness tourism sectors, which continue to shape the evolution of the country’s tourism brand.
One of the central pillars of Saint Lucia’s tourism strategy remains event tourism, driven by the sustained success of the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival. Authorities explained that the festival has become a key instrument for extending visitor stays, generating international media exposure, and stimulating local economic activity.
In terms of investment, officials pointed to new luxury hotel openings, expansion projects, and developments expected to add hundreds of rooms over the next several years. These investments reinforce Saint Lucia’s strategy of attracting higher-value tourism with stronger economic impact for local communities.
Meanwhile, Richard Moss, interviewed at the destination’s booth during the Marketplace, highlighted growing interest from North American travelers and the progress of Saint Lucia’s expansion strategy in Latin America following recent promotional actions in Brazil.
He also stressed the expansion of air connectivity through new direct flights from cities such as Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Chicago, as well as the organization of a regional conference in Saint Lucia scheduled for next year, which is expected to further strengthen the island’s positioning within the Caribbean tourism industry.
