The organization Caribbean Women in Trade (CWIT) has reminded the public that the deadline is approaching to submit nominations for the “CWIT Woman of the Year 2026” award, a recognition that honors women from the Caribbean who have made significant contributions to trade and economic development in the region.

According to the official announcement, nominations must be submitted by February 28, 2026. Proposals should be sent via email to info@caribbeanwomenintrade.org.

The award aims to recognize a Caribbean woman whose work has had a measurable impact on international trade or related sectors, including exports, services, investment, logistics, and market access. The distinction highlights leadership and achievements that contribute to strengthening the Caribbean’s commercial ecosystem.

CWIT also places strong emphasis on candidates who demonstrate regional or international influence beyond their own organizations, helping expand trade opportunities and fostering economic growth throughout the Caribbean.

Key criteria for nominations

Candidates will be evaluated based on several factors, including:

  • Demonstrated impact in trade or trade-related sectors
  • Leadership and influence within the business or trade community
  • Contributions to regional or international trade development
  • Commitment to supporting and mentoring other women in business
  • Professional integrity and alignment with CWIT’s values

Eligibility requirements

Nominees must be Caribbean women by nationality or heritage. They may reside in the Caribbean or be part of the Caribbean diaspora, provided their work contributes to the development of trade in the region.

CWIT clarified that candidates do not need to be members of the organization to be nominated, but self-nominations are not accepted. All nominations must be submitted by a third party.

The CWIT Woman of the Year award highlights the role of women leaders who are helping shape the future of trade in the Caribbean while creating opportunities for other women entrepreneurs and professionals across the region.

Media coverage has also begun to highlight potential candidates whose work reflects the spirit of the award. In this context, the international news outlet ABC Mundial mentioned Priscillia Watcher, Deputy Director of the St. Martin Tourism Office, as one of the women whose leadership and contributions to the promotion of the Caribbean and sustainable tourism reflect the values recognized by the CWIT Woman of the Year distinction.
