There are places you don’t simply tour — you experience them. In Punta Cana, where the sun melts over lush vegetation and the humid air signals adventure, there is a precise point on the map where nature, Taíno culture and adrenaline converge. That point is Bávaro Adventure Park, a destination that doesn’t just offer activities, but a sensory, emotional and deeply Dominican journey.

Bávaro Adventure Park has established itself as one of the most complete attractions for travelers seeking to combine adventure, nature and cultural experiences in a single place. This is how Héctor Ureña, the park’s Commercial Director, described it during an exclusive interview with ABC MUNDIAL, where he detailed the park’s innovations, its tourism impact and the international reach that today ranks it as a must-see attraction in Punta Cana.

The surge in travelers — especially from Argentina, the main Latin American source market to the Dominican Republic — along with recent international recognitions for the country, such as Santo Domingo’s selection as host of the UN Tourism Conference 2027, create a promising landscape for the industry. In this context, Bávaro Adventure Park is strengthening its commitment to expanding experiences and raising the standard of adventure tourism in the region.

Sacred River: The First Underground River Inside an Adventure Park in the Dominican Republic

The park’s major new attraction is Sacred River, a unique experience in the country that blends nature, archaeology and a strong cultural component.

“Sacred River is a mystical, sensory experience. It is the first underground river inside an adventure park in the Dominican Republic. In just two months, we’ve welcomed more than 25,000 visitors,” Ureña explained.

The experience begins with a cultural path that tells the story and traditions of the Taíno people, the island’s first inhabitants. Interpretation panels, visual displays and bilingual information in Spanish and English prepare guests for what lies ahead.

Entrance to the river is through a limestone cave, descending 17 meters until reaching the water table. From there, the journey unfolds through completely natural waters — a two-year adaptation project carried out with full respect for the environment.

Inside, the cold, crystal-clear water flows through narrow tunnels, low-ceiling caverns, open canyons, soft waterfalls and rock walls carved with Taíno petroglyphs. Some sections are walked, others are floated, guided only by lanterns reflecting off ancient formations.

“Every immersion is unique. People come out with a different smile,” Ureña told me — and it’s true: underground, time feels suspended. The experience is included in the Splash of Emotions package, which lasts between 4 and 4.5 hours, though it feels like stepping into another world.

Adventure on the Surface: Buggies, Ziplines and Hidden Lagoons

Back above ground, the park opens up as a mosaic of nature-based activities — more than a dozen in total — ensuring something for every visitor.

Ziplines ending in water

The famous Mega Splash zipline, which concludes with a jump straight into the water, is among the park’s most celebrated moments.

Buggy and Polaris tours

One of Punta Cana’s most complete off-road circuits, featuring mud, tropical landscapes and rugged terrain — including a nighttime Polaris version with dinner, Caribbean music, pool party and open bar.

Cenotes and lagoons

Cenote Blue Lagoon and other freshwater sanctuaries serve as quiet, scenic spaces perfect for swimming, photography and connecting with nature.

Horseback riding and natural trails

A Trip Back to 1950s Dominican Republic

One of the park’s most charming spaces is the replica Dominican village, a recreation inspired by the 1950s where guests can taste freshly roasted coffee, chocolate, mamajuana and hand-rolled cigars. Colorful houses, soft music and artisanal aromas create a pause that combines history, gastronomy and tradition.

“We want visitors to experience our cultural essence, not just the adventure,” Ureña said. That is why all tours include a traditional Dominican lunch, a detail that completes the experience.

Perfect Location, Fast Access and Full Flexibility

The park also enjoys a privileged location along the Boulevard Turístico del Este, just:

  • Minutes from the airport
  • 5–10 minutes from most hotels
  • No more than 45 minutes from the farthest one

Bávaro Adventure Park offers flexible package options, something unusual for parks of this kind:

  • Basic: up to 5 experiences
  • Combo: up to 7 experiences
  • Full Access: all activities for 7–8 hours

“Letting each visitor build their ideal day is our key difference,” Ureña emphasized.

Essential Tips for Enjoying the Park

Before wrapping up, the Commercial Director shared three essential tips that summarize the park’s spirit:

  • “Bring a towel — everything here involves water.”
  • “Wear closed shoes or water shoes, due to natural terrain.”
  • “Be ready to want everything: photos, souvenirs, memories.”

The multilingual staff speaks English, Spanish, French and German. Activity requirements include:

  • Minimum height: 130 cm
  • Maximum weight: 130 kg / 280 lb (horses and ziplines)
  • Driving age for buggies: 18+ with license

A Park Growing at the Pace of the Country

The Dominican Republic is experiencing a golden moment: tourism records, more air connectivity and growing interest from new markets. With the country confirmed as Guest of Honor at FIT 2026, international visibility continues to rise.

“We are part of that growth. Every year brings more tourists, more flights, more Latin American travelers. The park grows with them,” Ureña said as the sun set over the forest.

Bávaro Adventure Park is more than a park — it is a living story of the Dominican Republic, where Taíno heritage breathes in the caves, nature keeps its original rhythm and every visitor finds a chapter of their own to tell.
