July 30, 2025 – A massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake off the eastern coast of Kamchatka, Russia, has sparked tsunami warnings across the Pacific, particularly affecting Japan, Hawaii, Guam, the Philippines, and other parts of Asia and Oceania.

Japan issued mass evacuations for over 2 million residents, especially in coastal areas including Hokkaido and Tohoku. Early waves measuring up to 1.3 meters reached Japanese shores. In Hawaii, residents of Honolulu and Oahu were instructed to seek higher ground, although the advisory was later downgraded. The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center continues to monitor possible aftershocks and wave activity.

The quake also triggered a volcanic eruption in Russia’s Klyuchevskoy volcano, prompting scientists to warn of additional geological instability. No fatalities have been reported, but authorities urge extreme caution, especially in low-lying coastal zones.

Travelers and residents in at-risk areas are encouraged to follow local emergency instructions and stay informed via official channels.
