Tintamarre has become a true snorkeling paradise in the Caribbean. Its crystal-clear waters, protected by the Saint Martin Nature Reserve, offer a spectacular underwater setting where coral reefs, tropical fish, stingrays, and even sea turtles are easily spotted.

Located just 3 km northeast of St. Martin, this small island of only 1.2 km² combines natural beauty and conservation. Tintamarre also holds important elements of its historical heritage, such as the remnants of an old airstrip and rural traces, along with diverse wildlife including iguanas, land turtles, and numerous seabirds.

The island is accessible only by boat excursions and offers activities such as snorkeling, paddleboarding, and walking along virgin trails to explore both the coastline and the island’s interior.

This Caribbean gem blends history, untouched nature, and unique experiences for those seeking an authentic destination far from mass tourism.

A History-Rich Island

Tintamarre has been inhabited since ancient times. Between 1946 and 1950, it hosted an airstrip operated by the Compagnie Aérienne Antillaise, the remains of which can still be visited. The island was also home to agriculture and livestock activities led by the so-called “King of Tintamarre,” Diederick van Romondt, leaving behind traces of its rural legacy.

A Protected Natural Refuge

Much of Tintamarre is part of the Saint Martin Nature Reserve, internationally recognized for its unique ecosystem. The island is home to iguanas, turtles, crabs, and numerous seabirds, as well as dry forests, mangroves, and coral reefs that ensure the preservation of its biodiversity.

Sustainable Tourism and Sea Adventures

Accessible via boat tours from the main island, Tintamarre offers visitors white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling, and paddleboarding areas. It’s the ideal spot for those looking to enjoy tranquility and nature in a protected, uncrowded environment.

Tintamarre is a haven for those seeking disconnection, natural beauty, and a connection with the French Caribbean’s history. Its surroundings offer an escape where time seems to stand still, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the authentic magic of Saint Martin.

Travel Agent Training: A Destination Ready to Welcome You

In line with its commitment to quality and sustainability, Discover Saint Martin, the official tourism board for the French side of the island, invites Spanish-speaking travel agents to participate in its free online training program.

The platform features interactive modules, downloadable materials, and updated resources on the destination’s tourism offerings, including new openings, sustainable tourism, wellness, gastronomy, and niche markets such as LGBTQ+ and luxury travel.
