A Journey to the Past on Vintage Wheels and the Most Beautiful Sunset in Michigan
As the afternoon faded, we enjoyed something truly special: a vintage car tour organized by Antique Joy Rides. These open-top Ford Model A convertibles (1929–1931), lovingly restored and equipped with the warmth of the past and the safety of the present, invited us on a journey that felt almost cinematic.
We settled into the low-slung seats, leather benches beneath us, and set off through the charming streets of the Dutch-inspired town, lined with blooming gardens and classic homes. Our driver cruised at a relaxed pace, sharing stories about the blueberry farms, the iconic "Big Red" lighthouse at Holland State Park, and the silhouette of Lake Macatawa. That retro lens transported us to a golden era, as the warm evening air brushed our faces and the stress of the city melted away.
When we arrived at Boatwerks Waterfront Restaurant, we were welcomed with an enticing experience: dining by the water, fresh cocktails, and soft music complementing the lake view. We sat out on the terrace, where the last rays of sunlight danced on the surface of the water, and enjoyed a delicious meal — New American–style seafood, fresh salads, and light desserts that paired perfectly with the fading day.
But the grand finale came with a stop at Holland State Park, where we witnessed Michigan’s most beautiful sunset. The sky burst into shades of orange, pink, and violet, as the horizon melted into the lake. The breeze, the quiet stillness, and the distant cry of seagulls created a magical, comforting atmosphere.
This part of our journey —vintage cars, lakeside roads, dinner, and sunset— became a warm memory, a moment to savor with all five senses. A perfect example of how human-centered technology (a classic car, a sunlit meal, an endless horizon) can reconnect us with what truly matters.
