Washington, D.C. – President Donald Trump’s address to Congress on March 4, 2025, reinforced the stark partisan divisions in the U.S. political landscape. Instead of a unifying message, Trump delivered a speech filled with political attacks, self-praise, and contentious policy positions.

Trump criticized Democrats for failing to acknowledge his achievements and equated his early second-term successes with those of George Washington. He amplified cultural issues, including opposition to affirmative action and diversity programs, while overstating the scale of his election victory.

His remarks on Ukraine marked a shift in tone, as he read a letter from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressing readiness for peace negotiations. However, just days earlier, Trump had suspended U.S. aid to Ukraine to pressure Zelenskyy into talks.

The president also blamed Joe Biden for soaring egg prices, ignoring the impact of bird flu. Additionally, he praised Elon Musk’s influence in government reform, despite controversy surrounding Musk’s alleged discoveries of financial mismanagement.

On trade, Trump defended his tariff policies against Canada and Mexico, dismissing economic concerns despite market turmoil. In response, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the tariffs, signaling potential retaliatory measures.

The speech, met with cheers from Republicans and protests from Democrats, underscored the deepening political divide in the U.S.
