Gloria Fluxà, who has held the position of Vice President and Director of Sustainability at Grupo Iberostar since 2018, has stood out for leading initiatives that promote sustainability and for strengthening the company's commitment to responsible tourism.

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has announced a significant step towards a more sustainable future with the appointment of Gloria Fluxà as the new Vice President of the international organization and President of its Sustainability Committee.

Gloria Fluxà, who has held the position of Vice President and Director of Sustainability at Grupo Iberostar since 2018, has been distinguished for leading initiatives that promote sustainability and reinforcing the company's commitment to responsible tourism. Her role as President of the Iberostar Foundation has also reflected her dedication to environmental and social causes.

Fluxà's appointment comes as a replacement for the co-founder and President of Intrepid Group, Darrell Wade, who led the Sustainability Committee since 2020.

It is worth noting that Gloria Fluxà was recognized in May 2018 as a "Young Global Leader" by the World Economic Forum, acknowledging her efforts to promote sustainable tourism, particularly in marine preservation and oceans through the "Wave of Change" movement. This initiative focuses on reducing plastic consumption, promoting sustainable fishing practices, and improving coastal health.

In this regard, Fluxà stated, "I feel honored to take on this role, supporting the industry's commitment to driving significant change. Responsible tourism is not just a vision; it is a necessity for our planet and the well-being of our communities."

Julia Simpson, President and CEO of WTTC, praised Gloria Fluxà's impressive track record, dedication to sustainability, and her vision to harmonize economic growth with environmental preservation and social impact. Simpson also thanked Darrell for his hard work and dedication in recent years, acknowledging his invaluable contribution.

During the recent Global Summit in Rwanda, the WTTC also announced the appointment of Greg O'Hara, founder and Senior Managing Director of Certares Management LLC, as the new Chairman of the WTTC Board. This new leadership is intended to propel the global travel and tourism sector towards a more sustainable future, with the premise of balancing economic growth with environmental preservation and social impact.
