Piastri wins in Zandvoort as Norris and Hamilton retire in dramatic Dutch GP
The Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort turned into a chaotic afternoon for some of Formula 1’s biggest names. Oscar Piastri delivered a flawless performance to claim victory for McLaren, extending his lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship. The Australian was joined on the podium by Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and surprise contender Isack Hadjar (RB), who celebrated his first F1 podium.
But the race was equally defined by high-profile retirements. Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) crashed out after losing control of his car, bringing out the first Safety Car of the day. Shortly after, Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) was taken out following a clash with Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli, a collision that earned the Italian a time penalty.
The biggest blow came for Lando Norris (McLaren). After starting on the front row and fighting strongly in the opening stages, his car suffered a power unit failure on lap 65, forcing him to retire. The DNF dealt a serious setback to Norris’ title ambitions and handed a crucial advantage to his teammate Piastri in the championship battle.
Meanwhile, Argentine rookie Franco Colapinto (Alpine) delivered his best performance of the season, finishing 11th after starting 16th on the grid. Although he narrowly missed out on scoring points, Colapinto showcased consistent pace and outperformed his teammate Pierre Gasly, who ended at the back due to a poor tyre strategy.
In the end, Zandvoort belonged to Piastri, who proved once again that he is the man to beat in 2025. But for Norris and Hamilton, the Dutch GP will be remembered as a bitter setback in a season already full of twists.
