EAGLE BEACH, Aruba. Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort, recognized as the Caribbean’s most eco-certified hotel and the region’s first and only CarbonNeutral® certified resort, concluded an impactful Earth Week 2026 celebration focused on sustainability, wellness, and community-driven environmental action.

Held from April 20–25, the adults-only luxury resort transformed Earth Day into a multi-day immersive experience, encouraging guests, team members, and volunteers to take meaningful action in support of environmental protection and long-term sustainability.

Located along the pristine shores of Eagle Beach, the resort once again demonstrated its global leadership in regenerative tourism and sustainable hospitality by integrating environmental responsibility into every aspect of the guest experience.

Island-Wide Beach Cleanup Highlights Earth Day Activities

The centerpiece of Earth Week took place on April 22, Earth Day, when Bucuti & Tara joined the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (AHATA) for the island-wide coastal cleanup initiative, a longstanding environmental effort that began more than three decades ago.

A total of 104 participants gathered on the Eagle Beach shoreline in front of the resort, including resort associates, JetBlue Aruba volunteers, students and teachers from Mon Plaisir Primary School, and resort guests.

Together, the group collected:

  • 12 bags of waste and two large containers
  • Approximately 50 kilograms of bulky debris
  • 45.48 kilograms collected by students
  • 38.36 kilograms collected by Bucuti volunteers and staff

The initiative not only removed waste from Aruba’s coastline but also promoted environmental awareness across generations, highlighting the importance of collective action in protecting the island’s natural beauty.

The Environmental Legacy of Ewald Biemans

The resort’s sustainability commitment dates back to the early 1990s, when owner Ewald Biemans founded AHATA’s Environmental Committee and launched the “Sponsor-a-Mile” program, inspiring Aruba’s hospitality sector to collectively protect its beaches.

Today, that legacy continues under the leadership of General Manager Cresi Biemans, who oversees ongoing monthly beach cleanups involving guests, staff, and community members.

Conservation Efforts Extend to the Bucuti Tara – GMC Nature Preserve

Earth Week activities also extended inland to the Bucuti Tara – GMC Nature Preserve, a protected 32-acre reserve in Noord dedicated to ecological restoration and biodiversity conservation.

Previously at risk of development, the land has been permanently preserved and transformed into a living regenerative ecosystem through reforestation and habitat restoration initiatives.

During Earth Week, 12 volunteers — including Bucuti associates and local families — participated in cleanup and restoration efforts, removing more than 150 kilograms of waste from the preserve.

The experience reinforced the importance of not only preserving Aruba’s landscapes but actively restoring them for future generations.

Sustainable Experiences for Guests

Throughout the week, guests participated in a curated lineup of experiences designed to connect personal wellness with environmental consciousness, including:

  • Sustainable wine tastings featuring responsibly sourced organic wines
  • Zero-waste mocktail workshops focused on creative food reuse
  • Restorative cacao ceremonies with mindfulness and sound healing
  • An outdoor screening of Turning the Tide, an Aruban documentary highlighting marine conservation and restoration efforts

The activities reflected Bucuti & Tara’s philosophy that sustainability is not simply a responsibility, but a rewarding and enriching lifestyle.

More Than 400 Sustainability Initiatives

The resort currently maintains more than 400 environmental and social initiatives and has remained carbon neutral since 2018. Bucuti & Tara was also among the Caribbean pioneers in eliminating single-use plastics and continues to expand conservation partnerships and community-driven environmental programs.

As demand for responsible tourism continues to grow globally, Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort stands out as one of the leading examples of sustainable hospitality and regenerative tourism in the Caribbean and Latin America.
