Barbados Strengthens Latin American Ties at IBTM Americas 2026
Barbados is deepening its push into the Latin American meetings and events market with its participation in IBTM Americas 2026, set for August 19-20 in Mexico City. Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) will bring a delegation to the Mexican capital aiming to build commercial ties with buyers, event planners, travel agents and media representatives from across the region, at one of the most significant gatherings for the MICE segment (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) in Latin America.
The Caribbean island will arrive at the trade show highlighting its luxury hospitality offerings, authentic cultural experiences and strong regional air connectivity. With that combination, Barbados is positioning itself as one of the Caribbean's leading destinations for both corporate travel and incentive trips, as well as high-end leisure tourism.
Corey Garrett, BTMI's director for Latin America, said the region remains one of the destination's markets with the greatest growth potential, particularly in meetings, incentive travel, luxury tourism and travelers seeking an authentic Caribbean experience. He noted that the island's presence at IBTM Americas goes beyond simple destination marketing, forming part of a longer-term effort to build lasting partnerships with the Latin American travel industry, spanning both corporate and leisure segments.
Joining BTMI's official delegation will be three key industry partners representing different sectors of the island's tourism offering. Marriott Barbados Collection will showcase its resort portfolio, which includes properties such as Colony Club, Treasure Beach Art Hotel, The House (an adults-only property), Tamarind, Crystal Cove, Turtle Beach and Waves Resort & Spa, each operating under a different Marriott brand. Also participating will be Reflections Barbados Inc., one of the island's leading destination management companies, along with Quintessential Realty & Luxury Services, a firm specializing in luxury villa rentals and custom-designed travel experiences.
Together, the delegation will highlight the range of experiences Barbados offers, from large corporate groups to travelers seeking exclusive, tailor-made getaways. The trip to IBTM Americas is part of a broader BTMI strategy to raise the destination's profile across Latin America through targeted promotion of specialized tourism segments, including meetings and events, luxury travel, culinary tourism, sports tourism, and health and wellness tourism. That push also includes the Barbados Welcome Stamp, a remote work visa that allows visitors to live on the island for up to 12 months, designed to attract digital nomads and professionals looking to combine work with an extended Caribbean stay.
Looking ahead, Barbados will place special emphasis on celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of its independence, using the milestone to showcase its cultural identity and reinforce its appeal as a world-class tourism destination. With IBTM Americas on the horizon and the anniversary celebrations approaching, BTMI is gearing up for a high-activity promotional stretch across the region.
