Royal Caribbean unveils Hero of the Seas, the next generation of family vacations arriving in Miami in 2027
Royal Caribbean has unveiled Hero of the Seas, the fourth ship in its groundbreaking Icon Class, set to debut from Miami in August 2027 with a new generation of attractions, dining concepts and accommodations designed for families.
The cruise line said Hero of the Seas will build on the success of the Icon Class by combining the best elements of beach retreats, resort-style escapes and theme park thrills in one vacation experience. The new ship will feature eight neighborhoods, nine pools – the most at sea – 28 dining venues and a series of new experiences aimed at multigenerational travelers.
“Icon Class truly set a new standard for family vacations, and Hero of the Seas takes that vision even further,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean. “With more water, more thrills and more choices for all ages, we’re continuing to build on what our guests love about Royal Caribbean.”
More pools and more ways to unwind
One of the ship’s headline features will be its record-setting pool lineup. Hero of the Seas will offer nine distinct pools, including family-friendly spaces, adults-only retreats and a brand-new Caribbean-inspired pool.
Among the new additions is Coconut Cove, a new pool located next to the tropical Lime and Coconut bar. The venue will include in-water loungers, poolside drink service and views overlooking the lush Central Park neighborhood.
The adults-only Hideaway area will double in size compared with previous Icon Class ships, adding a second infinity pool, the largest swim-up bar at sea and an in-water DJ booth designed to create both a party atmosphere and a relaxing escape.
The ship will also introduce an expanded Swim & Tonic adults-only pool and bar, along with enhanced water features at Splashaway Bay, the water play area for younger children in the Surfside family neighborhood.
New thrills for adventure seekers
Hero of the Seas will also expand Royal Caribbean’s signature lineup of adrenaline-filled attractions. Category 6, already known as the largest waterpark at sea, will debut two new family raft slides, including the first funnel raft slide ever introduced on a cruise ship.
Guests will also be able to experience Crown’s Edge, the skywalk and zip-line combination suspended 154 feet above the ocean, as well as the FlowRider surf simulator.
Additional activities include the Adrenaline Peak climbing wall, the Lost Dunes mini-golf course and sports courts for pickleball, basketball, soccer and more.
A record number of dining options
With 28 dining venues, Hero of the Seas will offer the most extensive culinary lineup in Royal Caribbean’s fleet.
One of the standout concepts is Orleans Parish Supper Club, a new multi-course restaurant inspired by the elegance of New Orleans’ French Quarter, featuring live jazz, handcrafted cocktails and Cajun and Creole cuisine.
Another major addition is Royal Railway – Hero Station, an immersive dining experience that transports guests to different destinations through recreated train cars, technology, food and entertainment.
Families will also be able to participate in hands-on cooking classes in the Surfside neighborhood, while AquaDome Market will return with four new food stalls, desserts and fresh juice offerings.
The ship’s dining lineup will also include popular Royal Caribbean favorites such as Izumi, Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, Chops Grille, Hooked Seafood, El Loco Fresh and Sorrento’s.
New accommodations for multigenerational families
Hero of the Seas will introduce a new collection of accommodations designed for larger family groups.
The most striking will be the Ultimate Family Treehouse, a three-story suite featuring a rooftop terrace, private whirlpool, dedicated teen space and multiple bedrooms.
The ship will also feature the Ultimate Family Townhouse with direct access to Surfside, along with Surfside Family Suites and Family Infinite Ocean View Balconies.
For travelers seeking a more elevated experience, Hero of the Seas will offer Royal Loft Suites and Icon Loft Suites.
Caribbean itineraries from Miami
Hero of the Seas will sail seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami, with every voyage including a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.
Western Caribbean sailings will visit destinations such as Roatan in Honduras, Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico, while Eastern Caribbean cruises will call at Philipsburg, St. Maarten, and Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.
Bookings for Hero of the Seas open to Crown & Anchor Society members on April 1, ahead of the official public launch on April 2.
