The conflict in the Middle East entered its fourth day with a sharp regional escalation. Iran launched drone strikes against the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, as cross-border bombardments continued between Tehran, Washington and Tel Aviv. At the same time, Israel confirmed it was carrying out “simultaneous strikes” in Tehran and Beirut, widening its military campaign against Iranian targets and positions held by the Shiite group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh was hit by two suspected Iranian drones, prompting the temporary closure of the diplomatic mission. The U.S. Embassy in Kuwait also suspended operations, while the State Department ordered the departure of non-essential personnel and family members from six countries: Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. U.S. citizens were additionally urged to leave 14 countries across the region immediately due to “serious safety risks.”

On the military front, Israel intensified its offensive in southern Lebanon, deploying additional troops and securing new strategic positions near the border. Hezbollah fired projectiles into northern Israel, causing minor injuries and structural damage. The Israeli military said the group still retains missile and drone launch capabilities, although its stockpiles have been “significantly degraded.”

Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed recent damage to Iran’s Natanz fuel enrichment plant, one of the most sensitive facilities in the country’s nuclear program, but said no radiological consequences were expected. It marked the first official confirmation of damage to Iranian nuclear infrastructure since U.S. and Israeli airstrikes began.

The confrontation has also spread to strategic energy hubs in the Gulf. In Fujairah, in the United Arab Emirates, a fire broke out in the oil industry zone after debris fell from an intercepted Iranian drone. No injuries were reported, but the incident heightened concerns over the security of critical energy infrastructure outside the Strait of Hormuz. In Oman, the U.S. Embassy in Muscat instructed staff and American citizens to shelter in place amid ongoing military activity.

U.S. President Donald Trump warned that the war could extend beyond the initially projected four to five weeks and said the “big wave” of U.S. strikes is still to come. With hundreds reported dead in Iran and casualties also among U.S. service members, the absence of a clearly defined endgame and shifting statements about the scope of operations raise the prospect of a prolonged conflict with significant geopolitical and global energy consequences.
