An all-time high of 21.7 million Americans are expected to set sail on ocean cruises in 2026, marking the fourth consecutive year of growth, according to AAA. This figure represents an increase from 20.7 million passengers projected for 2025, and continues a steady upward trend from 19.1 million in 2024 and 16.9 million in 2023.

The Caribbean remains the top destination, drawing 72% of American cruisers, thanks in part to the rising popularity of shorter cruises that offer convenience for travelers and scheduling flexibility for cruise lines. Alaska follows with 7% of passengers, while the Mediterranean accounts for 5%, with other global destinations making up the remaining 16%.

Florida’s ports are expected to see the highest traffic, with Miami handling 10.2% of embarkations and debarkations, Port Canaveral at 8.8%, and Fort Lauderdale at 5.6%. Galveston, Texas, and Barcelona, Spain, round out the top five busiest cruise ports globally.

The forecast underscores the resilience of the cruise industry and highlights strong demand for a wide range of itineraries as Americans plan vacations for the coming year.
